The Caleufu is a smaller river accessible only by floating from mid-November to mid-January. After that the water is too low to get the boats through. Dry fly fishing is tops here where you can wade or fish the banks from the boat. Patterns are not critical, but a drag-free float is.
The float is entirely through private estancias, and camping is on islands. One night out will get you through, but two nights allow plenty of time for wading with a dry fly.
This is a beautiful area in the upper reaches until it flattens out near Lake Alicura. Wild boar, red deer, emus and birds are plentiful along this river. There is little pressure and lots of fish. This is a "must-do" float for the early season if camping suits you.
